Free business fraud risk check

Would your business spot a fraud before the money left?

Most business fraud doesn't involve hacking anything clever. It relies on someone doing something normal, like paying an invoice or updating a supplier's details, at exactly the wrong moment.

The scale of it

Fraud against UK businesses is common, costly and under-reported

27%of UK businesses with employees experienced fraud in a year, around 389,000 businesses
6.04mfraud incidents against those businesses in the same year
£507mlost directly to fraud by businesses in England and Wales in a year, and very likely an underestimate

One in nine businesses was hit by a fake invoice, and one in fourteen by a fraudster changing a supplier's bank details. Add prevention, insurance and clean-up, and the Home Office puts the total cost to businesses at £5.2bn a year.

In 2025/26, more than £101m was stolen through payment diversion fraud reported to police, across 3,657 reports. Organisations made 35% of those reports, and construction recorded the most of any business sector.

Sources: Economic Crime Survey 2024, Home Office (fieldwork Feb to Aug 2024). Economic and social cost of fraud 2023 to 2024, Home Office (England and Wales, year ending March 2024). Both cover businesses with employees only. Report Fraud, run by City of London Police for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, published 28 September 2026 (reported cases only, individuals and organisations combined).

How it works

What is the fraud risk check?

A short, practical test of how your business handles the moments fraudsters target. It isn't a policy checklist. Each question puts you in a real situation and asks what would actually happen.

  1. Say how protected you think you are

A quick guess, as a percentage. We compare it with your result at the end.

  2. Work through 12 situations

Several answers will sound sensible. Pick what your business would really do. After each one you'll see why the safest answer works.

  3. Get your results by area

Scored on your weakest link, because that's where a fraudster starts, with two or three practical fixes for each weak area.

  • Paying suppliers
  • Your team and access to money
  • Customers and orders
  • Email and accounts
  • Impersonation
  • If it goes wrong

Who we are

Built by people who've spent their careers stopping fraud

THU-ID Ltd (company no. 16183182) is a UK fraud-prevention company based in the North East of England. It was founded by Colin Brown, whose career has been in fraud prevention, working with some of the largest companies in the world. That work includes bringing SMS scam prevention to market, introducing age-related restrictions in telecoms, and advising some of the largest social media companies on fake identities.

THU-ID is preparing to launch Business Guard, a fraud-protection service built for small and medium-sized businesses. We made this check because most SMEs don't have a fraud specialist to ask, and the controls they rely on are often weaker than they think.

The check is free and educational. There's no obligation and no sales follow-up unless you ask for it.

We'll never ask for money or passwords

This page never asks for bank details, passwords, card numbers or payment. If anything claiming to be from THU-ID ever does, don't respond, and let us know.
